From his frequent absences to his waning mental and physical health, evidence was abundantly clear to anyone paying attention. Yet, instead of being transparent with the American people, the Democrats and their media allies continually reassured us that everything was fine, all while knowing they were perpetuating a lie.
Biden’s deterioration during the debate with former President Donald Trump was inevitable, a moment that exposed what had long been concealed. The actual scandal lies not in Biden’s performance but in the fact that his team, senior Democratic leaders, and the media misled the public, undermining the very foundation of American democracy. Unfortunately, this manipulation continues even today.
The timing of the Biden-Trump debate was particularly telling, nestled conveniently between the closure of the Democratic primaries and the start of the Democratic National Convention. This orchestrated timeline allowed the Democrats to avoid an open primary and preempt any contestation at the convention. The same media that once labeled Hunter Biden’s laptop as “Russian disinformation” and showed little curiosity about the origins of COVID-19 are now busy tidying up the Biden administration’s numerous blunders. From international conflicts in Afghanistan, Ukraine, and the Taiwan Strait to domestic issues like the chaos at our southern border, the ramifications of Biden’s leadership have been severe and far-reaching.
As an immigrant and historian initially writing for a British outlet, I had less at stake in bucking the mainstream American narrative. From the outset, I openly described Biden as senile and unfit for office, anticipating the inevitable rise of “President Harris.” Following the debacle in Afghanistan, I noted that Biden’s visible decline could no longer be denied, urging his resignation due to his obvious incapacity.
Even America’s allies, relieved as they were to see Trump out of office, could clearly see through the facade. Their perception of Biden as a “corrupt dotard” was shared by America’s adversaries.
The ongoing media cover-up forms part of a broader strategy to obscure the erosion of American democracy, a fundamental attack that cannot be swept under the rug any longer. Even as some media voices like Jonathan Chait attempt to rationalize the administration’s actions, their “good and noble reasons” for containing Biden’s mental decline are both disingenuous and dangerous. Unlike wartime deceit to guard national security, this deliberate misleading of the public during peacetime is both unjustifiable and damaging.
The deeper question remains: if Biden isn’t truly steering the ship, who is? Some conservatives speculate about Barack Obama controlling the White House from the shadows. Yet, this misses the larger point. The modern presidency, steeped in bureaucratic inertia, no longer functions as a decisive authority as it might have in Truman’s era. Instead, our bureaucratic aristocracy resembles pre-revolutionary French nobility, endlessly protecting its privileges while avoiding accountability.
The evident incompetence of high-ranking officials like Janet Yellen, Pete Buttigieg, and Antony Blinken is no accident; it’s a feature of an administration designed to maintain the status quo. Even Biden’s presidency’s symbolic nature reflects this tragic backdrop, reminiscent of fictional narratives like the West Wing, where a president’s health is hidden from the public.
Ultimately, the dysfunction within the Democratic Party highlights a deeper illiberal and undemocratic strain. The question for Republicans is clear: are they prepared to genuinely save the republic, or will the cycle of deception and incompetence continue? The state of our nation demands more than symbolic leadership; it requires a courageous commitment to truth and accountability, principles that seem increasingly scarce in today’s political landscape.
