Where Did the Kamala Campaign Implode?

OpinionWhere Did the Kamala Campaign Implode?

After the slow motion train wreck of the Bret Baier Fox New interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, the nation finally saw the depth of her policies—which consisted of her not being Donald Trump. Many will point to this interview as the turning point in her campaign…that this is the start of a cascade that leads to her defeat. While it was a debacle of an interview for Harris, this was not the turning point in her botched campaign.

I contend that the fate of her run for the White House was sealed on August 6, 2024, when she picked Tim Walz as her running mate. It was emblematic of her poor decision making trait and did absolutely nothing positive for her campaign. It leaves a person wondering if she chose Walz, or if he was simply the only person willing to tie his career to the boat anchor known as Kamala Harris.

When you pick a VP, you do so for several reasons. One, he/she may be able to ensure that a state would be pulled into your camp. Two, they are a candidate that will augment your ticket, and bring in voters that the presidential candidate can’t. Three, a VP candidate has to make voters comfortable that if the President can’t fulfill their duties, they are competent and that the country will be in good hands, someone trustworthy.

Walz fails across the board.

He is from Minnesota, a state that any democratic candidate, even Kamala, was likely to win. The best bet would have been the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro. Locking up a major swing state would have been the intelligent move, something that is clearly beyond Harris. Everyone saw through the decision. Shapiro is Jewish, and Kamala was fearful of losing Michigan voters – the home of the largest Arab community outside of the Middle East. Harris traded Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes for Michigan’s 15 – an indication that she struggles with basic math. Ultimately, identity politics and the propensity for the left to divide the electorate into competing camps drove a poor choice on her part.

On the second point, augmenting her ticket, Walz is a self-proclaimed liar. He lied about his military career, being in Tiananmen Square, and even the abortion bill he signed in his state. “Tampon Tim” doesn’t bring her new voters. His role in permitting the riots and looting of 2020 actually alienates would-be voters. Tim’s own family doesn’t support him as a candidate, they are openly Trump supporters. Walz’s impersonation of Elmer Fudd cemented him as a bumbling stooge, not a booster for the Harris campaign.

In terms of making voters confident, Walz has declared himself to be a goofball at times. The single admission alone stirs discomfort with voters. His deer-in-the-headlights expressions and fumbling with questions during the VP debate don’t instill confidence. In fact, they make people question why Kamala picked him in the first place.

When the dust settles and Trump wins, the left will look to place blame. The blame does not reside with Tim Walz. This buffoon is tragically consistent and was a known politician before he was elevated to the national stage. He will likely be thrown under the bus so hard that the transmission will bump his head. The blame lies with Kamala Harris alone. She made a horrible decision with Walz and everyone knows it. Her choice of Walz proves that that she is unqualified to hold the office of President. She blew the most important decision that the candidate makes; their running mate.

Can Americans afford to put her in a position where daily, if not hourly decisions are integral to the job?  I think not.
