Their primary concern is the DHS’s apparent pattern of releasing suspected terrorists at the U.S. southwest border and the subsequent national security threats posed by such actions. In their letter, the committee members highlight the gravity of the situation by pointing out that, disturbingly, at least eight individuals from the Terrorist Screening Dataset were released “accidentally” from Customs and Border Protection or ICE custody, some of whom committed heinous crimes upon release.
